Stool around the World

A stool which is made from just one board of material. What started as a lasercut product now has a new iteration in the Fablab Zürich, being CNC-cut. The challenge is always how to get the tolerances right: in this case, the material was measured and then the CAD was adapted. Important detail: using a left turn milling bit reduces tearing and makes fastening easier.

Two things improved with the dark version:

  • the cross-joint is now such that it has a defined tolerance over the length of the cross, which is nice, because both the slot and the ridge are machined and therefore "controlled".
  • the hard surface of the phenolic treatment leaves a nice edge (almost no fuzz) and protects the material from moisture, etc..
